9th Grade

9th grade English focuses on the introduction to the high school experience in writing and through classic and contemporary literature

 We read the following novels in 9th grade that are supplemented with short stories, poems and other materials

 To Kill a Mockingbird
Stargirl
The Odyssey
Romeo Juliet”

 Each reading assignment is accompanied by a writing assignment in the form of an essay, journal entry, research paper or story.  9th grade also covers a variety of new vocabulary words, grammar skills, and word study skills.

Wells Hall

When I recall memories of this building, I remember immediately all the mind numbing lectures that occurred within its walls.  Certainly lecture has its place in the classroom, but it is a much more important thing, as the above calendar unit hopes to prove, that engaging students in activity makes the learning more worthwhile.  Active learning not only increases understanding, but enjoyment as well.
